I wrote Opry Star more than a year ago after I watched American Sniper. My first thoughts where to highlight the effects of PTSD in the song, but felt it would be too heavy.

This song is strongly rooted in storytelling as well as character building. I wanted to bring the country music element to it so the military feel drums at the beginning gives way to a more traditional approach after the first verse.

The story begins with the soldier returning home after an injury. He had a dream to one day be a country star performing at the Grand Ole Opry. As his journey progresses through the song, he searches for the reasons why his life didn’t turn out the way he had imagined. Without giving the ending away, he eventually found his true purpose which would give him great reward.
